Position: Farm manager trainee for 2018 season (half-time, April through November, at $11/hour.) As the current owner, I am rapidly approaching retirement age and am actually looking for someone interested in taking over the business within a year or two. This could be a good interim experience for someone preparing for agricultural entrepreneurship: Since the 4-acre field is owned by EcoVillage at Ithaca and leased for a nominal yearly fee, no major financial investment in land would be required, and I’m open to creative financing arrangements for transferring KPB’s other assets.

Description: In operation since 2006, Kestrel Perch Berries grows a variety of small fruits (chemical-free but not certified organic) and is currently offering a 12-week U-pick berry CSA as well as some non-member picking on a pay-as-you-go basis. The potential also exists for restaurant sales and value-added, and several plots now being used by West Haven Farm could become available – to expand the berry plantings or add annual U-pick crops, for example.

The berry patches are tightly planted and most of the work (weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing, tilling, cover cropping) is now being done by hand or with small machinery. The field work requires some physical stamina but the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs is NOT a requirement.

Please contact me (with resume or other summary of your interest and experience), and let’s talk!
