Scything: Preparing to Mow – Sharpening & Peening

Due to low attendance, we have canceled this workshop. Good news is we have a beginner scything class coming up on July 8th!

Instructor: Jeremy Biazzo

The scythe has been used as a human powered mowing technique for centuries. Austrian-style scythe blades are forged from a single piece of steel into a light and graceful tool. Get your scythe ready for the season at this upcoming workshop! Students will learn how to prepare their blades for peening, use a peening jig and sharpen with a whetstone.  Scythe Fitting issues will also be addressed.

Date: Saturday, May 20th, 9:00AM – 2:00PM
Location: Groundswell’s Incubator Farm, Ithaca
Cost: $30 Workshop Fee
Tools required: scythe
Materials Fee: $65 for jig, whetstone, whetstone holder, earplugs [Waived if you plan to bring your own materials]

Instructor Bio: Jeromy Biazzo is a skilled scythe maker and mower and co-owner of Wolftree Farm

Registration Deadline: May 8th
This course is limited to 20 participants.

Don’t hesitate to contact us at info@groundswellcenter.org or 607.319.5095 with questions about access to materials, transportation, etc.
