Our New Interns and Fellows: Welcome Mary-Kate, Mark, and Eli!

This fall Groundswell welcomes three inspiring students to our team!

Two Cornell SC Johnson Graduate School Board Fellow’s have joined our Board of Directors this year. The Johnson Board Fellowship aims to provide MBA students an opportunity for professional development through service on non-profit Board of Directors. The Board Fellowship allows for strengthening ties between the Johnson School and the greater Ithaca area non-profit community. Learn more about Mary-Kate and Mark below!

Groundswell has also hired a new communications intern to help facilitate the promotion of our programs, services and most importantly the Groundswell story. Learn more about Eli below!

Mary-Kate Duffy

Mary-Kate is an MBA student and Johnson Board Fellow at Cornell’s SC Johnson Graduate School of Management. Before going to business school, Mary-Kate worked as a public health researcher, evaluating the efficacy of criminal justice and homelessness rehabilitation programs. While working in research, she developed a passion for the food system and began interning at the Boston-based non-profit grocery store, Daily Table. Inspired by the work of Daily Table, Mary-Kate left her research job to pursue work at Tenuta di Spannocchia, a non-profit agriturismo in Italy. Mary-Kate now volunteers with Cornell’s Food Recovery Network and is excited to learn more about how mission-driven organizations like Groundswell operate.

Mark Daniel Krutty

Mark is interested in sustainable, healthy, equitable food production. Previously, Mark worked with The Giving Grove, a Kansas City nonprofit focused on building urban orchards to provide sustainable food sources for families in food deserts. Mark has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Kansas, and is currently pursuing his MBA at Cornell’s SC Johnson College of Business. In his free time, Mark can be found hiking and camping in the great Ithaca outdoors.

Eli Serrano

Eli is the new Communications Intern at Groundswell. Her job includes updating all social media pages, creating new blog posts for the website, and creating monthly newsletters to keep our followers informed on all things Groundswell. Eli is currently a junior at Cornell University studying Animal Science and Environmental Sciences and Sustainability. Her passion for animals, agriculture and the environment led her to learning the importance of a sustainable and just food system. Joining Groundswell has given her the opportunity to impactfully communicate her passion to the Ithaca community and join the fight for sustainable, equitable agricultural systems. You can also find her DJ-ing at Ithaca’s Alternative Radio Station, WVBR 93.5 or spontaneously jumping into Cayuga Lake.
