SUMMARY:Women on the Land: It's Electric!
DESCRIPTION:Register: Click Here \nWorkshop Fee: Workshop Cost: Sliding Scale $75-$150\n($40 Solidarity Price for refugees\, immigrants\, and women of color) \nCurious about electric work? We all know electricity is not a hobby\, but come out and learn the 101 of electric theory and what you can do as a homeowner\, homesteader\, or farmer! Each student will wire a light\, a switch\, or an outlet\, and we will examine home electrical applications such as changing an outlet\, making an extension cord\, wiring heating sources for water\, solar and grid-tied animal fencing\, and running electric to remote access areas. Students will leave the course with basic skills and knowledge of electric work\, and a reasonable understanding of what a layperson should and shouldn’t do themselves. This workshop is taught by Rebekah Carpenter of Fingerlakes Renewables Solar Energy. \n  \nWe’ll break for lunch at 12pm. Please bring a bag lunch. \n  \nThe Women on the Land Series is a collection of hands-on workshops for women taught by women and include topics such as butchering\, welding\, carpentry\, electric\, and chainsaw skills. This workshop will continue the work completed by the 2018 cohort and finish the wash station via constructing the side walls. \nNo experience necessary. Join Monica Burke\, owner of Monweld and learn about the basics of torch welding and metal repair. Students will learn the mechanics of the torch\, basic steel metallurgy\, and safe practices. Each student will get an opportunity to try torch cutting and practice simple welds. The class will also include DIY metal-repair techniques such as “tap and die” and various types of epoxy. \n  \nWe’ll break for lunch at 12pm. DESCRIPTION:Space is limited. Register for the workshop: CLICK HERE \nIn this women’s-only workshop on Thursday\, Feb 21st 4:30pm-7:30pm\, learn the basics of butchering chicken and pork. This workshop is led by Heather Sandford\, co-owner of The Piggery.
