Thor Oechsner grows over 600 acres of certified organic grains in the Enfield/ Newfield area outside of Ithaca. His crops include corn (feed and food grade), wheat (soft white winter, hard red winter, and hard red spring), oats (feed and seed), rye (mill and seed), buckwheat (mill and seed), red clover (seed and soil building), emmer/farro (food grade, especially pasta), spelt (food grade), grass hay and straw (horse market). Thor sends most of his milling-type grains to Farmer Ground Flour, a new local milling company. He also sells grain to local distilleries, and seed to other farmers. Thor is also an accomplished mechanic, and loves to teach the art of maintaining and repairing farm equipment.
