In the interest of the traditional Cayuga (Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ- People of the Pipe), a sovereign nation of the Haudenosaunee confederacy, it is an urgent need to ensure that Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ traditional leadership of chiefs and clan mothers can keep SHARE Farm, the only agricultural land the traditional people have within their homeland. The @cayuga.share.farm is near Great Gully, a sacred place of refuge for the Haudenosaunee. Donations made through Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming @groundswellcenter will be used to ensure the farm continues to be kept as a place of education, healing, and Haudenosaunee culture. -Martha Williams, Farmer Advisory Committee Member

2020 has been ROUGH but we’re proud that @groundswellcenter is committed to leveraging our resources as a white-led organization to more BIPOC-led initiatives. It’s a long road ahead to becoming a truly anti-racist and multicultural org.

Coalition building, relationship development, and compensating BIPOC leaders fairly are just a few ways in which we try to show up for food sovereignty.

Let’s do better in 2021 and center reparations, land access, and sovereignty in our food systems work.

In 2021 Groundswell is working with @headwater_food_hub and @pressbayithaca to construct a walk-in cooler in downtown Ithaca so that more small farmers can take advantage of food hubs and other unique sales channels.

– Lily and Dave, Attila the Hen Farm

In 2020, Groundswell teamed up with a regional organization, @headwater_food_hub, to connect more buyers to local farmers. The local schools especially loved the colorful rainbow chard ! 🌈

Groundswell served as an intermediary between
distributors and farmers, working closely with small farmers to combine – or aggregate – their produce with other local growers in order to facilitate bulk sales. We 💚 budding new farmers!
