Farm Business Marketing
Learn how to build a compelling message for your farm brand using the time-tested techniques of storytelling. Marketing consultant and farmer Liz Pickard will teach the strategies she uses to help clients craft a message that centers the customer’s needs, positions them as the hero of our story (like Luke Skywalker) and positions you as the wise sage (Yoda), ready to help them solve a big problem. By the end of class you will have a completed brand narrative ready to put into action on your website, brochures, or other marketing materials.
Liz Pickard is a former organic farmer of 12 years, self-employed marketing consultant, and future organic farmer. She has an educational background in journalism and photography and is currently enrolled in the Food Studies MS program at Syracuse University. She is a co-founder of the CNY Young Farmers Coalition, member of the NOFA-NY Policy Committee, and singer and guitar player for the Battle of the Farmer Bands champs the Flywheels. Liz feels that art, culture, and magic are critical tools for growing a more just, sustainable, and resilient food system. Song and story feature prominently in her role as a rural organizer and farmer. She brings the ancient craft of storytelling to her work as a marketer, underlining the power for good marketing to empower both farmers and consumers.
