About
Main Street Farms is a diversified organic vegetable farm focusing on CSA, wholesale and farmers markets in Cortland, NY. We have a large aquaponics system (one of the largest in the state) and a variety of greenhouses and high tunnels spread over three locations which are used to focus on shoulder season and winter production. In total there is over 25,000 sqft of covered space spread over a variety of greenhouses and high tunnels.
We are a close knit team. We have a farm chef that prepares lunch for our crew everyday and we sit and take the time to eat together and enjoy our farm bounty. Our crew members are passionate about sustainable farming and the local food system. We work together to make our farm more efficient and provide our community with the best quality produce possible.
Job Description
We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit to make the most of our greenhouse and high tunnel spaces. For much of the year our greenhouses sit idle since we are very focused on field production, so we are looking for a person with some experience in either Controlled Environment Agriculture, or greenhouse and high tunnel growing to come up with new crops or management strategies to make the most of our covered space. Not only will you will be responsible for seeding and harvesting in our aquaponics system but also managing irrigation schedules, crop nutrition, and pests in all of our high tunnels. We expect you to be able to set up and run fertigation systems in a certified organic environment and be able to troubleshoot the systems when needed. We have limited time for training so you must be a self starter, fast learner and be willing to jump in and get going on projects on your own. We are looking for the right candidate who fits our farm culture and has expertise for this job. We will interview until we find the right candidate to fill this position.
We are looking for at a minimum a one year commitment. We want somebody who is creative, passionate about local food and farming and doing something that contributes back to the community and has a positive impact.

Experience
We require that you have at least two years experience working in CEA, or high tunnel production management. (Please DO NOT apply if you do not have this experience).
Payment
This position is paid at an hourly rate of $15. However, after the first year we will consider changing this into a year round salaried position between $30-40K
Housing
Farm will offer help in finding housing. Farm is located 1 mile from downtown Cortland, 20 miles from Ithaca, and 30 miles from Syracuse.
